Belgium and Clydesdale Heavy Draft Horse Pull - the work horses.

A draft horse (US), draught horse (UK) or dray horse (from the Anglo-Saxon dragan meaning to draw or haul; compare Dutch dragen meaning to carry), less often called a heavy horse, is a large horse bred for hard, heavy tasks such as ploughing and farm labour. There are a number of different breeds, with varying characteristics but all share common traits of strength, patience and a docile temperament which made them indispensable to generations of pre-industrial farmers. Draft horses and draft crossbreds are versatile breeds used today for a multitude of purposes, including farming, show, logging, recreation, and other uses. They are also commonly used for crossbreeding, especially to light riding breeds such as the Thoroughbred for the purpose of creating sport horses. While most draft horses are used for driving, they can be ridden and some of the lighter draft breeds are capable performers under saddle.

  • Amazing animals. I love how excited they are to pull. Proof positive they LOVE their job. Anyone who knows horses can read it in their body language, they are ready to go. Amazing video of some incredible animals. So glad to know that we aren't the only fans of draft pulls. =)

  • Their ears are back because they are listening to the driver, its no different than a horse with his ears back to listen to their rider. Notice they aren't pinned against the skull just back, that chewing is also a sign that they are paying attention. Historicaly only the best workers got to pass on genetics so they are built to work and take the strain. Too much wieght all the time or at too young an age yes that can damage. If they want to pull, which these clearly do, I say let them.

  • @MarcoAtlarge They do not get nailedwith cattle prods you idiot

  • It's Belgian and a Clydesdale wouldn't be found anywhere near a horse pull, they're fairies and are just for shows. Perhaps you mean Percheron or Shire

  • @Shasta991 Thank you, I can't believe how many people call it animal cruelty when it's clearly not.

  • That fair ride made me sick just watching it...

  • beatiful

  • PLEASE EXCUSE MY IGNORANCE TO THE SPORT, BUT IS THERE DIFFERENT DISTANCES TO PULL, LIKE THAT MIGHT LAST MORE THAN 3 FEET ? LIKE MAYBE ONE THAT LAST 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE, OR ONE THAT HAS TWO TEAMS SIDE BY SIDE TO SEE WHO CAN PULL THE LONGEST OR FARTHEST - I DON'T MEAN TO BE INSULTING, BUT THIS IS SO SHORT THAT LITERALLY IF YOU BLINK YOU'VE MISSED IT ....PERHAPS ONE USING LESS WEIGHT SO THEY COULD GO A LITTLE FARTHUR ???....THESE ARE HONEST QUESTIONS FROM SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW THE SPORT......

  • Does anyone know what they are using to add weight to the sleigh? It looks like salt blocks.

  • they put alot into their work! ive never seen draft horses look like dogs going up a hill!! its amazing these guys can pull that much! they have loads of muscles too boot! great looking teams!
