Ecuador to shut US military base in Manta- 17 May 08

The only US air base in South America is expected to shut down soon. Manta in Ecuador is home to a fleet of A-WACS spyplanes. Washington says they crack down on cocaine smugglers but the president of Ecuador is convinced the US helped Colombia carry out a recent cross border. Al Jazeera's Mariana Sanchez reports.

since the American base was shut down Narco traffic has increased by 1000 % --also drug related crimes have increased by a 1000%- killings and murders are rampant! so it was a big loss for Manta! also the revenue that produced for local busineeses has been detremental ! everyone lost on this one thanks to Jack Ass president Correa!
