A meditation on loss and renewal, "Heat Death in Families" interweaves true stories of fire and cancer to illuminate the experiences of loss and hope, yet at its core it is about the longing to reconnect. The film combines material from many sources—footage of the fire and its aftermath, medical documents and old home movies—into a flow of memory. It won Best of Show at the 2007 OpenLens Festival in Eugene, OR.
