Up until my accident I was in Corporate America for many years. I had never even touched a piano. I still can't read music or tell you where the notes are. All I know is that the black keys are flat. I don't even know what I'm going to play each time I sit down...but since my accident, the notes just pour out of me. Read all about Derek, the accident, and his newfound piano prowess here

  • If this story is real then this is remarkable. I am in awe

  • actually this is not bullshit this is called sevant syndrome its when someone sustains a massive injury or is born like this and their brain functions differently. When you're a sevant u lose some abilities but gain others such as you can lose your reading skills but gain art skills

  • he should learn the notes and play some other instruments. i love piano, but i also love electric guitar

  • He's a Savant. These people have truly amazing abilities usually triggered with some sort of mental disorder or brain injury.

  • great story..true and proven "sience chanel"

  • I heard of your fear you might wake up one day and not be able to play anymore. I don't think that will ever happen to you as music (I believe) is hard wired in us. Unless another accident or severe health problems come your way, I think you will be expressing yourself through your music the rest of your life. Congratulations! (Psalms 139:13-16)

  • The word is "Savant"

  • It's real, I read about it in my local paper.

  • He started a bit slow, but knowing what is going to happen when you hit a certain key puts you well ahead of the curve... And then 14 hours a day for 6 days a week... technical finger work will come real quick with that kind of practice.

  • I went to High School with Derek.... We were good friends back then, spent a lot of time hanging out, being kids and getting in trouble... I can tell y'all from personal knowledge... He NEVER played music growing up at all.... Talking to him just today... the music and the story is amazing.... Keep rockin Derek!!! I'm in your corner man!.... Scott "MUDDY" Ceretti!!
