Taken from the year of 2004, well before Gary Jules suprise uk number 1 of chrismas 2004 with MAD WORLD, two London mc's were cooking up the refix!

Mc's Doc Brown and Lowkey put together their own vocal drop over what was a dull, quite depressing track, and turned it into what we hear now. A real story of growing up in inner city London, with it's conscious lyrics and "head nod" flow, all elliments of the tune fit perfectly!

Only released as a limited edition white label (500 copies pressed) due to copyright problems, and it instantly became a cult classic. The title on the white label is "DONNIES LEMENT", because the track title of "Mad World" could not be used, again, for copyright reasons, but it is well known as the "Mad World Remix". "Donnies lement" is a reference to the original track, which was featured in the cult film Donnie Darko.

The track was later used as a B side to "IN MY LIFE" by Doc Brown, (which can also be found on my channel) and featured on Doc's debut album - Citizen Smith Vol 1.

It was leaked to Radio 1 in early 2005, i suspect deliberately, to hopefully gain a full release, due to Radio 1's heavy airplay of the original. Radio 1 claimed it was forwarded to their "specialist music department", which doesnt really exist, and claimed on air, not to know where it came from, or who the artist's were! This gave Radio 1 the freedom to stay clear of any copyright issues. It was only played a limited number of times on late night shows, by DJ's Zane Low, Annie Mac and once by Jo Whiley on her morning show. It was then dropped from the playlist as it became clear the track was never going to be released due to the unresolved copyright issues, due to sampling Gary Jules lyrics and vocals. From there, it was left to the limited number of DJ's and pirate station's who had copy's of the tune to push it forward and keep the track alive.

A true, rare underground track for your ears! Doc Brown's 2nd album followed later in 2005 - The Doccument - which is excellent if you can get a copy, but this track is sadly not included on the album.

Enjoy!

  • @blikbladae2 lool true

  • @LudicrousBarchart yeah, true. But still, this song is the beginning of a UK Hip-Hop legend, it should have 500,000 views AT LEAST. At least Bars For My Brother has a decent amount of views.
