Under a ride full of panache from Maxime Guyon, hot favourite Ambitious Dragon, trained by Tony Millard for owner Johnson Lam Pui Hung, delivered exactly what his fans have come to expect of him when coming with a strong late run to overpower the leaders and win the HK$16 million HKG1 2011 Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby at Sha Tin on 20 March.

IMO, if Ambitious Dragon is goes to the Hong Kong Cup over 10f and bypasses the Hong Kong Mile in December? He'll be the horse to beat in the Cup and Xtension will be the horse to beat in the Mile. Especially since Snow Fairy's connections have decided to go to the Hong Kong Vase over 12f with her this year and bypass another shot at the Cup at 10f. JMO.

Agree with you totally GB. He positioned much closer here in this race and the first two 400s were run at unexpectedly very fast pace compared to standard.

Eventually, Xtension is going to win one of these G1 races at Sha Tin. He ran a really big race for 2nd in the Hong Kong Derby today. Liked this colt when he raced in Europe, and he certainly hasn't done anything at all to harm his reputation since he's been racing in Hong Kong. JMO.
