To continue our series on alternate desktop environments for Ubuntu 11.10; today we will install LXDE. LXDE stands for "Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment" and it has a very simple task: be super fast. And it works great. If you're migrating from Windows to Linux and find stock Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity to be somewhat overwhelming, than this is a great alternative for you.

LXDE is also great for people using older computers with lower hardware resources as well.
