The Grace Centre is a new born intensive care unit at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, looking after some of the sickest babies in NSW.
About 30 to 40 percent of babies who come to Grace have a heart condition and many require heart surgery, including open heart surgery -- quite an incredible task considering babies hearts are about the size of an olive.
The Grace Centre is always looking for funds to buy medical equipment. The hope is that a purpose built clinic can be built, staffed by a developmental paediatrician, audiologist, speech therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist. Working together in a multi-disciplinary group means that problems can be identified early and the best early intervention can be provided for each child.
My litte girl was the Grace Centre almost a year ago, had her first heart surgery at day 2 of life. If it was not the wonderful doctors and nurses, probably she would not be still around.
Big thank you to all doctors and nurses!!!
