Demjanjuk Deportation Goes Through

An Indonesian court has found Marwoto Komar, the pilot of an Indonesian plane crash in 2007, guilty of negligence.




[Sri Andini, Chief Judge]: "The defendant Muhammad Marwoto bin Komar has been found legitimately and convincingly guilty of negligence that caused an accident, destroyed and damaged a plane which led to deaths. The defendant is sentenced by the court to two years in jail."




21 of the 140 passengers died when the Boeing 737 bounced and skidded off the runway at Yogykarta airport.




The Garuda Indonesia aircraft then burst into flames.




A group of Australians were among the casualties.




They had been travelling with Australia's former foreign minister Alexander Downer.




Marwoto Komar who had denied the charges against him said he will appeal.




Despite Komar's 22 years of flying experience prosecutors said he ignored warnings from his co-pilot and alert signals onboard about the plane's speed and trajectory when it was landing.




Prosecutors had been pushing for a four year sentence.




Indonesia has suffered from a host of airline disasters.




Safety concerns prompted the European Union to ban Indonesian airlines from its airspace.




In a bid to improve their safety record Indonesia passed a new law last year where an independent investigation commission will investigate
accidents.

If you ask Demjanjuk Jr. what might really have happened in his father's past, he doesn't have an answer.

Why not provide proof of not being a guard in Sobibor and other camps? Where were you Demjanjuk during 1941-1945? On the moon, Jupiter, Cleveland?
