Going to see Bruce & Band on Monday!! I can't wait.Saw Bruce once from the 3rd row from stage, not as lucky this time, but all is good.I will see one of my favourite musicians and heroes. Bless you Bruce for writing, singing and playing sheer poetry all these years. Thank you for not being afraid to speak your mind about politics & the shit storm we are in now. Love ya, man. Thanks for the memories & many more to come. Great song about a Soldier coming home, getting the loving send off he deserves.

I am glad to hear someone else thought this might be about a fallen soldier being brought back from Iraq. Thanks to Bruce for telling the story. He is the poet of our generation.
I got to see him twice this year. Last show I saw him was in Richmond. What a great show.

slicerjohn:Great insight and comment. Thanks.
Yes, the first time I heard it, I cried, and every time I hear it now, my heart just hurts.
I think it is a GREAT song no matter how anyone interprets it. Your comment about "Bruce being the poet of our Generation" was very beautiful and very profound. Thanks. Someone has to speak for those who want to, but for some reason, well...you know the rest. We have been through this before with VietNam and other situations. Glad you got to see Bruce. Peace:)

JeremyThePilgrim:Yes, it is a wonderful song. I cannot hear it enough. One reason is probably because of this insane War that will Never end. *sigh* The words help me, give me some peace. I wish they had played it when I saw Bruce last month. The whole Magic CD is wonderful, I think. I have Magic and The Rising in my CD player, listen to both at least once a day. Bruce's music has been in my life since 1974 and I hope I will always want to hear it. Steven is great! Guitar player & Mobster. :)

Yes! Magic is an incredible great album, so is The Rising! One of the thing I like with the Gypsy Biker lyrics is the timelessness. It is, obviously, about the Irak-war, but it could also be about the war in Vietnam (at least in my imagination). Springsteen´s music has been a part of me since 1984-85. I love his work. Always will. Be the way: I hope there will be peace soon in Irak, and that you guys will get your boys back home!
