@jimjim647 You have a valid point. But Gmail was his example (perhaps a bad one), the actual point he was making was company sensitive data stored physically outside the company's servers (in the case of Gmail: Google's servers).
I've come across a number of companies that don't allow the use of Google products for this reason. I'm not sure that I would do the same, but I can understand the reasoning behind it.
you're point of Google searching each mail in order to display related ads doesn't hold up. Spam filters do the same thing... ie, check your content to see if its spam or not. Its an anonymous process. using a similar process, to display related ads to content is no more invasive than Spam filtering, which i'm sure you'd not live without
