Thanks to the dumb asses at the SAFMC, we are forced to use circle hooks for Sheephead. The rule is in place so that if we mistakenly catch a highly endangered Red Snapper, we can release it unharmed. There are no Red Snapper in the inshore waters of SC.......Dumb Asses!!!

  • I, too, switched to circle hooks a few year ago. It was by virtue of the ill concieved mandate from the fish Police at the SAFMC! I do catch them but do miss a lot of hook-ups as well. But the Liberals seem to know what is best for all of us.

  • damn yall are slaughtering the sheephead lol...havent had good fishing in a while and im from louisiana

  • GREAT RELEASE!!!

  • Where is this? I live in SC and really want to catch some if u dont want to give it out for everybody to see can u send me a pm and what type and size hooks are you using?

  • Where on the cooper river?

  • I find circle effective in almost everywhere except when you are much higher than the water like up on a peer or bridge, don't know why but the large difference in height causes them to lose effectiveness and less hookups for me, might be something with how to keep the line out there because of the big difference it is harder to keep it tight. Octupus hooks however suck for me but they aren't really circle hooks.

  • what the name and size of the hook you used?

  • hahahaha great release indeed

  • Here in the Northeast we are not required (yet) to use circle hooks but I am switching to them voluntarily, because they are so effective. I used to have trouble with tautog and scup because I could never get the timing of the hook set right. Now, with circle hooks, the correct time to set the hook is...never!

  • i heard that you are not supposed to snag the hook just wait and let the fish hook itself?
