Mytyl and her brother Tyltyl, a woodchopper's children, are led by the Fairy Berylune on a magical trip through the past, present, and future to locate the Blue Bird of Happiness. To accompany them, the fairy magically transforms their dog Tylo, cat Tylette (played by Gale Sondergaard), and lantern ("Light") (played by Helen Ericson) into human form. The children have a number of adventures including a visit with their (deceased) grandparents in the Land of the Past, a stay in The Land of Luxury, an attack by angry trees and lightning which results in a forest fire, a meeting with Father Time, and, in the Land of Tomorrow, populated by unborn children, a meeting with Abraham Lincoln as a young boy (he prophesies "they will destroy me"), and a meeting with their future sister. The dream journey makes the previously unhappy and selfish Mytyl awake as a kinder and gentler girl who has learned to appreciate all the comforts and joys of her home and family.

  • Don't you think it's a little weird that 2 unborn children are in love? And also, why are some younger than others?

  • @Sims2freakazoider

I really don't think it's weird.. This love that we feel now is much smaller than the love that we could feel in a divine place.. I think that are some younger than others because they wait longer then others to be born.. just think..

  • when i was younger this was my favorite part!!

  • @mintghost

This was my favorite part too..

I realy cry when Mr Time said that the boy is not going to die but to live..

  • ive watched shirely temple movies all day and its weird seeing her this much older from the other ones i was watching today

  • my favorite movie of hers!

  • SHIRLEY TEMPLE IS BADASS AS FUCK!!!

  • This was my favorite part of the whole movie... and re-watchng now makes me cry...

  • @celestecristal852 I think it's Queen Victoria. If the tall boy is Abraham Lincoln, and the girl is Victoria, she would be born ten years later.

  • @shiapilar Well, you can only do what your circumstances allow you to do, so who's to say that some of these children might not grow up to be sociopaths or dictators? You could even say the same with natural miscarriages or regular childhood diseases that kill thousands of children ever day. What if that child has the knowledge but lives their entire life in a poor area?

With the proper environment, any person is capable of inventing or curing disease. If one person doesn't do it, another will.

  • The costumes all the kids wear gives this scene a Greek style look

  • If Abraham Lincoln is there, shouldn't Charles Darwin be there, too? They were born on the exact same day, February 12, 1809!

  • I used to love the way the little girls looked in this scene when I was a kid. The makeup and the hair. I always tried but never looked as cute as they did XD
