  • I was born with SB at a time when they were still learning was SB even was. Doctors said I'd be a vegetable, and that I'd probably die before age 5. I'm 34, and co-own a business, and travel to amazing places. I was blessed with a family like Abigail's.... A family who didn't believe in the words "I can't", and who taught me just because I do things differently, doesn't mean I'm "different". I want to tell every parent out there who has a child with SB, life is not over, it's just beginning!

  • Love you, Abigail! You have been an inspiration to me from the first time I saw you race a few years ago. Keep it up. You're awesome!

  • I think this is an amazing video Abigail, you have so much determination. My son is 11 yrs old and he has Spina Bifida, they said he would paralyzed and mentally retarded. He can walk with leg braces and his mental development is outstanding. He is a straight A student, he has challenges at times. He has a bladder and bowel incontinence, so therefore he has to wear diapers. He is a very loving and fun person. He is a inspiration to us. Keep up the good work.

  • @Stonymypony Nope, she wasn't playing you: fetal surgery is real :-).

  • you are a amazing girl abigail, keep up the good work

  • She is an incredible person. Never let anything stop you in life.

  • SHE IS AWESOME!

  • @susanbranson7 she's now 13?

  • Abigail is now 13 years old and is still swimming. She is in the 8th grade and swims for her local USA swim club as well as her high school team. It is encouraging to read everyone's comments and hear how her story inspires. Being a swimmer is just a part of who she is...she is also the youngest of 5 kids, an avid reader, loves Christian music, watching Netflix, and being with her dog. She continues to make us all proud!

  • @KiernanKate well spoken! God bless you! =)

  • I am interning at a hospital and this woman told me that she had something called fetal surgery because her baby has Spina Bifida. Was she playing me or is this real. She was on a lot of pain medication....

  • Like, even though your spine is hosed, you're awesome. You're an inspiration to many folks, including those whose spines are hosed. You go, girl!
