In this video, I do my first video on a busines prompt to help and build your WS example database.

Today's business prompt:
In business, the image of a product is more important than the product itself.

  • Or what about bodybuilding supplements, the image of a big muscular guy or lean girl on the side of a protein powder or dieting pill, vs orange juice commercials, where they talk about the nutritional benefits and studies while just showing a picture of an orange.

Maybe advertising of an organic food being given the image of being good to nature vs. genetically modified foods that actually have more nutrients in them?

Or do I need to draw examples from two different categories?

    Thanks!

  • The bodybuilding supplements and orange juice examples would work well for this prompt.

The only problem with the organic food example is that it is also touted as being better for you because of less chemicals used and I'm not sure organic food is as image heavy as something like bodybuilding.

So I would definitely use the first set of examples. They don't need to be from different categories as long as they are different enough.

  • I have a question. What about, in cars aswell, the image of American's driving big trucks, muscle cars, and depicting the "American Dream" driving down an open highway, versus the image of a small Japansese car that relies more on its reputation of being reliable and fuel efficient?

    Thanks!

And great videos. Take the MCAT tomorrow!

  • The car industry works well with this prompt. A lot of cars sell a specific image that they want associated with their brand (think Ferrari).

On the flip side, some cars rely on practicality and reliability rather than image. One of the users here posted about Mercedes which may not work as well because it is still a luxury brand. You would have to choose a more mid-level car to find one that relies less on image.

  • i duno about the computer arguement. Dell advertises the most and its a pretty unrealiable peice

id say somethin about the reputation of buisnesses. Id say somethin like the reputation of mercede's genuine products has allowed success lasting close to a century. Then go on about companys that say "since 1966"

  • Mercedes depends a lot on its image as well. Reputation is a part of a company's image as well.

Cars really do sell an image. Whether you buy a green car or a Ferrari, the car business relies a lot on image and the type of image you would have if you drove a certain car.

  • For instance, dyson vacuum cleaners are advertised as upscale and elegant machines with a very attractive appearance. However, their biggest selling point is the fact that they work so efficiently when compared to other leading vacuum cleaners. In this instance, looks had very little to do with market profitability. Consumers like the way they look, but are more impressed with their ability to clean effectively. In this way, appearance plays little role in consumer demand.

  • for this prompt i thought first about the various kinds of food products that are advertised. Often companies will dress up food products to make them look more appealing. Sometimes these companies take relatively strong measures to inject solutions into food products to plump them up or dress up sandwhiches to make them look tastier than they really are.

for the antithesis, I thought about certain products whose efficiency outweighs their marketed image.

  • Great video. Please keep them coming.
