Im Jersey City born and raised and we're nothing like the south Jersey folk. We don't say 'Joisey' either, it's more like 'Juh-r-zee'. And something like 'my father' can sometimes come out as 'my fodda'.
Perfect example of the S. Jersey/Philly accent is Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction. Another great example is actually in the HBO series, The Wire (Baltimore accent is very similar). Not the main cast, but some of the other parts. The high school principle in season 4 and the harbor patrol guy who Mcnulty works with in season 2 are good examples. Danny Pino's character, Scotty, in the tv show Cold Case is a fine example too.
Da dawgs ran in da wawta , now its all over da f----- house. Dats Jersey. Pure Kearny, pronounced "carny" Everybody else speaks some kind gypsy gibberish
So glad someone finally said that there is a difference between NORTH Jersey and SOUTH Jersey. I'm from south and yea which apparently sounds like "yeeeeeeeeeeeeeea" and "wudder" for water and "awn" alot. I never realized it until I went to college in Florida. Of course not everyone in South Jersey speaks like that, it's just who you're around. Craving a cheesesteak right now!
Ehh. I don't say "grateetude" and I don't say 'on' like 'awn' in a really strong way. It's kind of like the o in Coffee which is pronounced like 'cough'-ee. I feel like the SJ accent is less noticeable than a north jersey accent... maybe cause we tend to run our words together ("d'jeet yet?") and because we talk so fast. & I don't say 'casiner' but I do say ('Lanic City) haha.
This is intersesting to watch because most South Jersey people dont talk like that. I say: wa-ter not wu-ter; human not yooman; i pronounce "ou" as in noun like "eh" ex. ne-oun, just not a strong as you would phonetically say it. It does depend a lot on what area youre from though.
Its so ridiculous how similar the New Orleans accents are to Eastern states accents ( Jersey, NY, Philli ). Every word she said on here the Professor i say just like that, well except waooder for water, i say wa-da, and yooman ( a little differently though ), casiner and vegg i say just like that, but i dont say gratitude like gradeetewde , thats just weird.
