True but the current day definition of 'Freestyle' is generally considered as going off the top. Which is what I tend to go off of

FREESTYLE DOES MEAN UNWRITTEN, see the terms, off the top, or off the dome, which are phrases often used during a freestyle verse's.
To "Freestyle" was coined by Myka 9 of Freestyle Fellowship.
Prior to this in New York it, "to Freestyle" was a random verse.
@Need2Noh the phrase "Freestyle" doesn't mean it's unwritten. It just means rhyming without a beat or rhyming over a beat that you didn't write the song too. Meaning you're free of style. The phrase "off the dome" is the actual term for spitten rhymes right off the head. People today keep getting these hip hop terms mixed up.
