Part 1 of 2. Watch in high definition! Classic Game Room HD reviews the infamous ATARI 5200 controller for the Atari 5200 video game system from 1982. This analog controller with keypad is notorious for having problems nearly 30 years after its release. The innards fall to pieces, buttons stop working and the joystick is like mush. However if you want to play some awesome Atari 5200 games, and there is a huge complete list of amazing Atari 5200 games, then you're pretty much stuck with the OEM stock Atari 5200 controller. You can buy parts to repair it yourself or purchase refurbished Atari 5200 controllers, and Wico made some aftermarket controllers, but those options are costly. Ignoring those major problems, how does the Atari 5200 controller stack up against other joysticks and controllers from video game consoles past and present? Watch the review for a complete technical presentation reviewing this piece of Atari history. Classic Game Room HD reviews joysticks and video game accessories for retro old school game systems and the new consoles like Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.

  • @JDM9616 Nintendo 64 Cartridges=No end labels but nice shape!

3DO=Tall boxes but no need for a proprietary AV cord

CDi=Worst Zelda games ever but OK hardware and some descent titles(Ignored by the YoutTube community due to the Zelda games), oh and no proprietary AV cord required for Composite and Stereo

GameCube=Kiddie games but Solid built design and almost portable(Easier to take to a friends house)

SegaCD=Runs off its on AC Adaptor but most of the titles on it awesome.

  • Will a Neo Geo controller work on it?

  • LES-BEAN-HONEST

  • This controller is a piece of shit.

Why? It doesn't even work at all and it looks like a phone for calling aliens.

  • @IblisLucario64 Yup. They have the same plug-in slot.

  • @IblisLucario64 you can on a 2600 or 7800 but not on a 5200 unless you have a Redemption 5200 adapter which allows you to hook up a 2600/7800/SMS or Sega Genesis controller to the 5200. There are other adapters as well so you're not totally SOL.

  • @IblisLucario64 not on the 5200, which sucks balls!

  • you can use a sega genesis controller on atari?
