- This is a video clip recorded using the Foscam FI8904W wireless ip camera and 3.6mm wide angle lens. Originally the camera had a 6mm lens, which I changed for a wider 3.6 (purchased from ebay (username: usahitec)). The quality improved and gave me a much sharper image (view in 480p). - After using this camera for several weeks, I WOULD recommend it. Be sure to buy an authentic Foscam camera, as the knockoff's are supposedly junk. Setting up the camera can be a bit tricky, but after the setup is complete it has proven to be reliable. I also set up the camera to send me emails if motion is sensed. I used a free account from gmx and the emails are sent to a gmail account I set up.

  • I'm very hesitant at buying this lens. Is the edge of the lens showing in the bottom left?

    Cheers

  • @MrGreifing Yes it is. I have a second camera with the same wide angle lens and it does NOT have this issue. I haven't had time to try and fix this, but I think it might be due to "slop" in the lens mount on the circuit board, since not all 4 corners have this problem. Even wider lens have this problem even worse though.

  • Do all moving images appear blurry in IR mode?

  • @dutto75man

a bit yes, due to the slower frame rate (15fps) not sure about the lower res mode with 30fps though.

  • ok. thank you very much. I have a macbook pro...and am needing security but hear that this is a beast to run on mac. i appreciate your responses.

The cameras web browser also has a "server push mode" for firefox and google chrome browsers...that's what I usually use. Theres a couple iphone apps that work well too. good luck.

  • @leeroybrowns Sure, glad they helped!

Nope, the camera connects straight through the wireless/wired router and has its own internal web server. You do NOT need to keep your pc on, just the router.

  • ok, thank you. may i ask... what if i kept my pc at work and only used the pc at home to set it up. then would only rely on mobile devices at home for viewing...? does the pc need to remain on?

  • ok, thank you.
