I see some things that I could have done better. 1st the heat was a bit low. That wire was huge the temp should have run about 600 650 for that thick wire. I was at 550. The reason is when you place your iron tip on the joint you lower your temps right off 100 deg. 450 isnt hot enough so thats why I had that big delay of solder melt. If your at 650 you drop to 550 and you still have enough heat transfer to melt the solder. hope this helps.
@fuhishva Thanks for your input. And your right about the transfer Soldering is fun and you learn new things all the time. I love constructive criticism. I learn more every time I have a soldering job and get better at it. The Weller Wesd51 is a really nice unit and after a year of service its wonderful to use. Weller makes Nice stuff.
Thanks for your demonstration of this soldering station. I'm thinking of getting one of these or a similar model.
I don't think your technique for heating up that wire was very good though. Put, angle and hold your solder wire so that it touches both the iron tip and the wire. That will help transfer the heat faster, and as the wire gets hotter you will immediately have an indication when it's hot enough as the solder will melt where it touches the wire.
@jason1786 I support around 10 rcs and I help out my friends and my brothers that are in the hobby. Anyone that is into RC Like me your in need of a good station.. Also Im stuck doing every one I know soldering jobs. I would ask your self how often will you need the tool then make a choice on what will work for you. If you have 1 RC and you dont plan to solder much DONT spend 100+ on a station. My advice is something nice like a weller 40 Watt. I would stay away from the 9.99 irons.
Just an update on this system and demonstration.
