at the end of a day of extremist protest in san francisco against an international economic conference held in another city in another country on another continent, an incident occurred in which an arson was allegedly attempted against a police vehicle. it is also said that two officers were injured in relation to the incident.
josh wolf, who was both documenting and participating in the events, is reasonably suspected of having captured the attempted arson on video. this suspicion is based on footage that he selected and provided for local television network mainstream news affiliates.
a subpoena has been issued for the remaining footage, with which wolf has refused to comply. he is now in confinement, set up with an nlg attorney, and attempting to present himself as a martyr for press freedoms. his defense is to claim journalistic privlege over what is in fact video of a public event captured by someone with a blogspot account.
here's what precident would be set if josh's defense is successfull: any witness close to any defendant can defy any subpoena by claiming the satus of "journalist" by virtue of having posted about it on the internet. the ability to investigate and prosecute crimes would be wounded in the course of this ego trip..
wolf's role in this more clearly resembles obstrucion of justice and accessory to - i suppose you could call it skateboard hooliganism - than anything related to press freedoms or "social justice".
his controll over the image, as distinct from the reality, of that event is what josh wolf and his legal council are bumming change for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
it can be inferred that the following footage follows the incident which the prosecutor is investigating. the location of the action depicted here appears to be a block from a mainstreet. we can speculate that the arson and injuries occurred amidst a breakaway march arranged amongst the white teens seen milling about, exhibiting no genuine fear of official abuse. indeed, many are evidently baiting the officers they encounter. the action depicted centers around a solitary officer who is prone and retaining a suspect. cut from this video also is any material which would show how the officer came to be on the ground restraining a suspect in the first place. in the video promoting josh wolf, only half of this material is used.
of this material you may note the following:
- a group of at least a dozen masked white teens amass and advance around the prone, solitary officer.
- an anarchist attacks the officer with what appears to be an uprooted signpost.
- inches from the prone officer, wolf shouts threats past his own camera: "hey cop! you're going to jail for police brutality! your career is over fajita boy!"
- an ambush on arriving officers is attempted.
- what has been portrayed as a "gun" in promotional accounts appears in fact to be a tazer, which is a non-lethal device. in other words, the man who identifies himself as a federal officer is threatening to "blast" the white teen with a non-lethal device.
- as the situation comes under control, josh is told to move along. though he was before a volcano of rage against the machine, he simpers from behind his camera, "i don't have a right to stand on the sidewalk?"
Oh and thanks for including an update telling everyone that he DID release the footage and there's no arson in it.

In that whole, lengthly description of the video you provided, there's not much about the video at all. It came up under a search for "police brutality" but you don't seem to care about that. How can you make such accusations like "Josh says..." How do you know it was him and not someone standing next to him? And of course you'd like to think anyone who stands up for oneself is an "anarchist."

actually, i posted the video josh posted to indymedia in full without cuts or commentary, and reserved my comments for the sidebar text. had i so much as dropped a title at the head of it, people like you would pretend that that was evidence of manipulation, so i thought it best to not do so. in the sidebar text, i provided the context of what is being viewed, which is, i think for most viewers, a welcome thing. believe it or not, most people seeing a video of cop struggling with a white kid...

... in a black sweatshirt with his buddies lurking about menacingly and sypathise with the cop. but mine was the least edited version of the video which was up for a while, so i can understand why you might be upset that the sidebar text rendered it useless for propaganda purposes.
umm...what else? the same voice is the loudest voice of similar volume in two different camera positions and sounds like josh wolf, who's voice can be studied from any of a dozen videos.

wolf identifies himself as an anarchist in several of those videos, and in any case i'm not sure that whining is the same thing as "standing up". at this point i suppose at this point i should jump ahead of you and confirm that yes, josh wolf is a real person and not an illusion i've concoted here in my government bunker. we did land on the moon.

and also, it's to be noted that, at least in this case, the anarchist is not standing up for himself, rather, he enlistsd the national lawers guild, which is stalinist in it's dna, to stand up on his behalf.
finally, it shows up under the keywords "police brutality" because i placed them in the description. i want people to confront the fact that no brutality is shown, that in fact the situation arose from the protester's acts of violence, and that leftists lie about these things.
