Duke Energy, a Fortune 500 company, is proposing more than 100 industrial-sized wind turbines in rural Northern Michigan. Many local citizens are excited about the economic boost the wind farm would present, and it would also help Michigan continue to reduce its dependence on polluting fossil fuels. Some citizens, however, are concerned about property values and purported negative impacts on human health. The Michigan Land Use Institute asked Duke energy about some of the common complaints about wind turbines, and which were contained in an anti-wind movie called "Windfall."
As a land owner in Benzie County, I have listened to both sides as well as done research myself regarding short-term/long-term pros/cons of wind farming and I could not be happier with the decision to utilize this technology. I am all for it. Others have benefitted, why shouldn't we while our economy is in the tank.
