Israel allows Egypt to deploy in Sinai

Israel permitted Egyptian forces to deploy in the Sinai Peninsula for the first time since the two countries entered a peace agreement over three decades ago. Israel permitted two Egyptian battalions to be stationed at Sharm el-Sheikh. With the unrest spreading throughout Egypt since the anti-government protests engulfed the country a week ago, Israel is concerned that Palestinian militants may take advantage of the situation to smuggle weapons into Gaza.
