Quitman, GA
This charming Greek Revival cottage was built circa 1860. The home has a Gothic-pitched roof and has undergone a complete restoration. The restoration was done under the supervision of a restoration architect. The home consists of original plank heart pine flooring and nine inch plank walls and ceilings in several rooms. There are four fireplaces and a hearth in the kitchen. The home also has a carriage house which was restored as well. The original chicken pen under the house was saved, as well as the original well. Also, the Georgia Preferential Property Tax Assessment Program for Rehabilitated Historic Property allows eligible participants to apply for an 8-year property tax assessment freeze. The application for this home was approved by the Georgia Historic Preservation Division, Department of Natural Resources, in December, 2007. The tax freeze is now in place and the house was placed on the National Historic Register on September 5, 2008. This house is a must see!!
