Staff members Justin Zarr & Mike Willand made the all-night drive to their hunting lease in West Central Illinois for the opening weekend of archery season. These two bowhunters were looking forward to their first harvest of the year on film, but as fate would have it the bucks laid low and didn't present any shooting opportunities. However, they did have some great encounters with a lot of does and even a few turkeys.

  • We hunt both for meat as well as for trophy bucks. So with a doe already in the freezer, Mike doesn't need any more meat for himself or his family. So he chose to pass on the doe and hope a buck would come by later.

  • tazed2: he prolly aint got any more freezer room. thats why i would have passed.

  • cool footage....would have like to have seen one of those turkeys harvested too but cool anyways....good luck the rest of the way!

  • Good video. But, why not take another doe if you are meat hunting? Not trying to be rude but, everybody has to get a buck. I look at taking a doe as taking a trophy.
