Helmet? Sure it's a good idea, but in that setting the biggest risk was to her face while passing the railing or the bottom of the platform, and she did a fine job of getting past that. She had a bottom belay, so there was extremely little risk of an out of control rappel. What's this 'safety" anyone thinks was missing? An autoblock for a 25' rappel with a bottom belay? As a basic intro this was fine.

I personally hate the rack, i think the ATC or figure 8 is way better

i think because she was doing the rack for the first time maybe a belay line would have not hurt... just in case.. either way lol i love the rack descender. its alot of control on the line.. i like te 8 plate cuz is super fast lol either way

Everybody is an expert
The part with the helmet... I agree, it's stupid not to use a helmet.
The part with the rope ... They left it like that for convenience, in this case it's not a big issue.
The fun thing with a rack is that you DON'T need a safety line. You can block the rack by passing the rope over it like the instructor showed her. You're not going anywhere if at any point you block the rack.
The rack is actually one of the best descenders out there (and it's almost idiot-proof).
