@Kidsgrove49: Yes and no. I wouldn't call a French (Dutch, Czech, Polish, etc) woman who had an affair with a common German soldier "dropping their knickers for the Nazis" or collaborators. It's not like they were doing anything to contribute the the Nazi effort. However, those local women who did help the Nazi occupiers, yes they deserved whatever treatment they got.

As mob justice goes this was fairly civil - by the standards of the time, not now of course. The women seemed to accept the punishment, taking their seat for the haircut. Perhaps in a way they deserved it. Dropping their knickers for the Nazis is pretty low, and they were not punished in any other way after this ritual.
