I love Michael Culver in this. He plays his role with subtle humor which is a great foil for Brett's comic extravagance.

Holmes Never Married ... I think in the end he went crazy

Some nice stuff to see here...Watson's fascination with Holmes's early cases...Watson being left behind, for once, while Holmes catches up with an old uni mate...and Holmes off his skull on coke and Watson trying to cover for him lol.
(I always thought that Musgrave might already be aware of Holmes's junkie habits, since he knew him at uni. And despite what Holmes says, Musgrave seems like a perfectly friendly fellow here, and Holmes certainly seems eager to chat with him).

If I recall correctly, both in the books and in the series it is said that Holmes turned to substance abuse to handle the intolerable boredom between significant cases and the drudgery of everyday life. There was a TV play in which Holmes confronts Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on the issue, based on the story that the author had tired of Holmes and, having failed to kill him on previous occasions, tried to make him unpalatable.
"And how is the dear wife?" "I'm not married, Holmes." "How wise!"
