They would actually cost more if they were available in retail stores. The other thing is that the people you find working in retail stores just don't have the training necessary to sell Cutco, it takes alot of specific training because Cutco is radically different than all other knives out there. When I've actually gone into cutlery stores and asked the sales people there highly technical questions about the knives they do sell, they were clueless.

I sell Cutco for a living and I agree with every one of you. I've sold to people who have owned them for over 30 years and everyone I go to loves them.

My mother bought a set in the early 80s and still uses them. She sharpens them from time to time, but overall they are pretty damn sharp.
Too bad you cannot buy them in retail stores.

Cutco knives are excellent. I use to sell them and all the people I sold them to are still loving them and that was in 2003. So 4 years later, they still are sharp and they still love them.

I've had my set of Cutco knives for about ten or so years now- and they are truly supreme. Worth every single penny and then some.
