Greg eats up guys who are currently winning the polls. He not only restores to consciousness the genius of Getz but makes the "busy"players (Watts, Golson, etc.) sound little more than glib. His singling out Getz' solo on "Shine" was in itself a revelation. There's some showboating on this excursion, but Greg's pretty much on point all the way. I wish he'd been around when Segal would have 5 tuff tenors on the bandstand--Sonny, Jug, Dexter, Jaws, Moody. (Never a Getz.)

I first heard Greg play at the Aebersold Workshop
in Louisville. Greg shot right to the top of my favorite players list. Greg swings and has a beautiful sound.
