Hey man, i'll be getting my hands on one of these shortly too. It's an '82 model and the guy that i'm getting it from says that it needs to run on leaded fuel. Would i get away with using unleaded?? i don't know whether the valve seats are hardened in these engines....

just picked up a sr 250 last week, and i basically want to turn it into your bike. could you send me a link to the exhaust on it, did you make the battery box yourself? thanks man, LOVE the bike

hey man nice job with the seat where can i find something like that???

Where did you learn to shape the polycarbonate? I have been trying to find information on the process since you sent me that response. any information you could provide would be great. I absolutely hate the seat that the stock sr has. comfy but its looks are junk

Nice simple mods. I'm in the process of doing the same to an SR250 that i just got. I see you made some mods to the bars and lights too. What year is it? Would be great to see some closer video of the work...
Then designed a fabric pattern to cover the foam with paper. Then cut this out in UV treated vinyl and sewed it up. Glued it on with special leather/vinyl shoe glue. You could splash out and get a nice Nitroheads seat for $400-$500 and fabricate some way of mounting it. Its not the greatest finish of seats but it looks the part. The handle bars are clipons and the mirrors are bar end ones.

Battery box is a standard issue ammunition box from an army surplus store. Fits everything perfect - just drill holes etc for mounting and wiring. The seat I made ended up costing around $200 to make. I designed a seat pan from cardboard, then cut the shape out of polycarb with a hack saw and dremel. Then etched the bend/fold lines 1mm deep and heat it up along that line with a heat gun. Then bent it over the edge of a bench with leather gloves. I then shaped some foam using a bread cutter

Sorry for the long delay in response, haven't been able to link my stupid accounts. To answer questions: I run unleaded fuel in my bike and its sweet. I know this would be the same for all Australian models and probably world wide - the valves seats are inserts so they would definitely be hardened to run with non-leaded fuel. If you want the same exhaust, they are super common and available from most custom motorbike online stores - probably ebay too. Search for 12" Shorty Hot Dog Exhaust.

I have an sr250. What seat and Exhaust did you put on that beautiful bike

@duckie816 Hey Mate, the exhaust is the stock header with a 12" straight extension welded in and a slip on EMGO Hot Dog exhaust. I made the seat myself - heat formed a polycarbonate seat pan and then shaped some foam on top. Then covered it with UV resistant vinyl. If anything the quality of the seat lets the bike down but it is a home made custom done on the cheap anyways! Cheers for the interest.
