Somes it all up really. Walking amongst them herd without commotion.

@jangerrits Shepherd dog means livestock guardian dog as opposed to a sheepdog, which means a herding dog.

I have seen my Pyr guard my 4 month old ( at the time, now is 8 monts) when she was 12 years old. And, the younger dogs, the lab and the corgi, obeyed the Pyr completely. And my grandson was saved from all evil

Pyrs are guard dogs, not herding dogs. I have a PYR, a Lab and a Corgi. So, the corgi herds something, mainly me, to thePyr and the Pyr guards me against all eviil and the lab just waits and waits and waits, oh and demands love. lol

how good a shepherd is this breed?

it's not a shepherd dog actually, but a guarding dog. The Pyrenean Mountain Dog is not for keeping the flock together as some other breeds can do very well, but it is used as a dog to defense the flock against wolves and bears. To protect them for danger.
