You can buy sealed radiation sources that have been calibrated to +/- 20% of the labelled value. No license required. (I'm presently searching for a source that has a smaller range of uncertainty.)

@electrosyl If you want to drive a car, you have to have a license. If you want to fly a plane, you have to have a set of licenses--again, to prove competence. If you want to be a doctor, you need a license. Can anyone see what an insane irony it is that the most dangerous thing on the planet gets such an easy pass? There is nothing more dangerous than radionuclides let loose over the planet.

Jct: Too bad Canadians didn't take me seriously during my run for Prime Minister of Canada during the last election campaign when my videos advised Canadians to take cover. Now lots of those who laughed at me are going to die! Har har har. Like my first video said: Vote the TV Parties and you deserve to die. Google for Turmel's Dream Team videos.

@electrosyl Really great report from the source, friend. You need a hearty pat on the back (or lots of money) for your work. You seem knowledgeable, but don't forget, you are there baking now, just like everyone else there.

Thorium is radioactive and the huge clouds you may see on the weather maps are made of aluminum, cyrrus never show. Check patent 5003186

@pacinox2 I will sure do that. Will let you know what I get!
20,000 counts/sq. m is equivalent to how many sieverts?

I should have put the conversion of cpm to more standard units in my video as it would make comparing apples with apples much easier. I hope I get this right:
20000 cpm reads (0.175mR/h x 100)=17.5mR/h which =0.17mSv/h. This unit was calibrated for Cesium 137 (I think?) a while back before I owned it. So it hasn't been recently calibrated, as the cost of calibrating the unit to a known source would cost more than what the unit is probably worth. That's why I quoted CPM.

Yes, please do. Let's do what our governments are paid to do and are refusing to do. (Or just not telling us...)
They work for us, they are our employees, we shouldn't have to do their jobs, but what other choice do we have?
Let me know what you get in "La Belle Province" for a reading. Remember wipe approximately 1 meter of smooth area. A car hood is just about right. Heck do the who car while you're at it!.
