I agree..with lighter gear mono is my mainline..but i do all of my tarpon fishing from beaches with baits dropped 100-200 yards out so the braid helps with the hookset..We also use flouro leader but we were getting bit off by sharks a lot so I experimented with a foot long section of hardwire and we actually were still getting about as many tarpon pickups when there were more around back in the summer..I'm looking forward to March-April I bet more start showing up at my spots.

You could do it J! Thats why I prefer mono. Its stretches and is way more forgiving. The braid isnt for me. It doesnt stretch, so if you make one mistake and miss a bow on the fish, you pull the hook. Mono line -> Flouro leader

even in a boat personally I'd have no chance trying to wrestle a 100 #er with that light tackle..thats what i use for catching tarpon bait, lol..much respect
