Les Fradkin, the virtuoso of MIDI Guitar, presents "Everything Is Wrong" From "Reality-The Rock Opera"
The message of this song, written by Les & Loretta Fradkin back in 2003, and featuring very Hi Tech MIDI Guitar technology (The Starr Labs Ztar) is clear about American life:
"Everything Is Wrong, Nothing's Really Right!"
"Everything Is Wrong":
Words & Music by Les Fradkin & Loretta Fradkin
In Japan, they treat a man, with a long term 50 year plan
Get reward, without a sword,
Loyalty encouraged with a Corporate fan,
But in the States, no one relates,
Board members argue, and stock holders debate,
Promoting rot, a gordian knot,
Lawyers and accountants, and God knows what!
Raise the stakes and turn the screw,
It's only words, unless they're true!
Everything Is Wrong, nothing's really right
Can we ever win in a fixed game fight
Everybody knows, Corporate power grows,
Something's gotta change, fore the whole thing blows
Endless drone, wake up alone,
Driving in the dark to work, you're never home,
Another resume, you while the day away,
Fire up the Internet, no work or play,
A shallow shell, a living hell,
Alert the Corporation with a mission bell,
Heed the call, before you fall,
Lost your motivation, used to stand so tall,
Wave your wand, reverse the spell,
and change the drill, you know so well
Everything Is Wrong, nothing's really right
Can we ever win in a fixed game fight
Everybody knows, Corporate power grows,
Something's gotta change, fore the whole thing blows
At the coffee machine, the gossip stays clean,
Complain about the boss, but never say what you mean,
Fight for praise, another raise,
Do what you gotta do to brave the Corporate maze,
People sweat and slave, plying their trade,
Others get rich off the work that they made,
Nothing really works, false hope perks,
Just around the corner, a new world lurks
Marriages destroyed, people stay annoyed,
Families fall apart, too many unemployed,
Speeches on TV, "A Job For You And Me!"
Nothing ever fixes the void that we see,
Someday I've got a hunch, the roles will be reversed
And we'll do lunch in another Univers,
Compassion will rule, You'll be in OUR school,
Then somebody else will get to play the fool,
Stand up and fight, get out of your chair
And wash that brain, right out of your hair,
Everything Is Wrong, nothing's really right
Can we ever win in a fixed game fight
Everybody knows, Corporate power grows,
Something's gotta change, fore the whole thing blows

Robert Fripp once remarked in Guitar Player Magazine: "There is a new music to go with this new instrument. Therein lies my interest in the guitar synthesizer. That something entirely new will appear." This COULD be it! Come have a look and listen to the MIDI Guitar sound of the future.
Featuring the amazing sound of the Starr Labs Ztar!
The Ztar can be strummed with string triggers or tapped with one or both hands as seen in this video.
Made with Apple Logic Pro 8, Roland XV5080, MOTU Ultra Lite and iMovie
hey les.
are the strings as responsive as they should be? finger picking and plucking? i have a godin and axon combo. tracking just isnt there. even after years of tweaking! i want to try one but that seems near impossible short of ordering one.

Yes, they are very responsive in certain musical situations. But the tapping is the key to the Ztar highway.

The Axon system is extremely fast also. Very accurate and barely no delay on the 6th string. And you can mix the real guitar with your synth sound. This is another option less expensive and almost as versatile.

Axon makes very nice gear. And it is very fast, it's true. But there is NO comparison. By way of example, you could never play "Everything Is Wrong" on an Axon as you see here in this video. Because you can't zone the fretboard with multiple tunings that don't conform to normal scales as seen here.

I like the concept of the Ztar. It is in fact a keyboard arranged as a guitar. I submitted the idea to Harvey star that the perfect instrument would be the neck of the Ztar as you have and a small keyboard for the righ hand. This way, you do the same thing (and more) as a B3 player does!

Harvey offers this option in the form of trigger pads arranged as an array of 6 or 12 rubber pads, sort of like what the Synth Axe had with its key trigers. So if this method intrigues you, he can set that up on a Ztar. His Z6P model offers that feature, for example. The Baby Z also offers rubber triggers but, for me, the 16 fret neck is too short.
As to the B3 idea, it's easier to tune to fourths and tap the Ztar neck with both hands to do what you're describing.
I do this a lot.
