Calibrate your macbook / macbook pro once every 1-2 months to make your battery last longer, do this especially if your macbook is new.

This sometimes fixes the bug of not being able to charge up to 100%

Step by step: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2339.html

added: there is an application called "Watts" that can help you calibrate your battery and tell you your batterys exact stats.

  • Do I have to let the battery entirely die so that the battery light isn't even working? Cause that isn't gonna happen. There is always some little battery left.

  • @iAlwaysKnowIt as close to death as possible :)

  • Full charge capacity (mAh): 4947 is that low?

  • @ushmo10 440mAh is apples minimum requirement.. max you can get is roughly 5500-5700 depeding on the model. Yours is firmly in the middle so its average. :)

  • where are the apple instructions for calibrating

  • @thefurquan101 on the description theres a link.

  • ...also don't forget that this video was from 2009 and possibly speaking about an even older model macbook.

  • @TurtleKakashi Very helpful, I just bought a new macbook pro and wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything suspect. I shutdown my laptop at night and charged it second night after a full use (while charging) and battery only showed 98%?? so I'm gonna try these steps that you guys have provided and see if I can regain the rest of that vital 2%!! I want my 2 DOLLARS!! or two percent...

  • @kalijasin

    I agree with you

  • @TurtleKakashi

Regarding: "u keep charging it from 20% up eventually over time that unused 20% will become dead due to none usage."

that is true for older batteries but not the current batteries used in notebook computers

    they have no memory

all you are doing is resetting the internal computer chip that THINKS it has no charge - you cannot calibrate a modern battery only you are calibrating the chip that comes with it.

Longest life = average 50% charge and NEVER run it down to zero!!!!!
