This is a video that was shot of a driver I met at Speed World Surprise Arizona in a Dodge Charger RT and me driving my 2006 CLS 55 AMG. The CLS 55 AMG is bone stock. Nothing was removed from the car to make it lighter. I weigh 240 lbs. I'm burning 91 octane for fuel riding on Pirelli PS2 stock rims and tires. I was in manual shift mode revving to 6K prior to shifting. Vehicle Stability was on. I mashed the pedal without revving the engine to engage the drive train.

  • That was me losing.. Crazy to see it posted.. Always a blast at Speedworld... Win or lose..

  • Thanks for the reply. If it doesn't rain, I plan to be there Saturday 3-13-10. Perhaps I will see you there. If so, make sure to say hello. 2006 CLS 55 AMG

  • How funny. I received your suggestion just before going to the track on 12-19-09. As a newbie to the drag strip, I consider all reasonable suggestions. You are correct. I made four passes that day in auto sport mode. By the end of the day, I shaved ½ a second off the best time from October. Im still bone stock. Thanks for the input. I will try not mashing the pedal during the next time at the track.

  • Great to hear, glad it helped! Have fun, and post some more vids of your runs, looking forward to seeing more. Oh, btw: MBworld has a sticky thread in the W211 E55 forum about how-to in terms of launching, etc, it's quite good.

  • Also forgot to mention: don't "mash the throttle", you kind of need to feed it in more gently, or else you will get too much spin, the traction control will engage, and it will kill your 60' time.

  • You will get **much** better times if you let the car shift itself than by shifting it manually, for two reasons: 1) the computer has much faster reaction time than you do :), and 2) it shifts faster.

For best times, put suspension in comfort mode, transmission in sport (auto) mode, and concentrate on your launch, let the vehicle handle the shifting.
