I thought the XY control of the launchpad would make a good way to play a formant filter in real time. The pad is sending note trigger and continuous midi controllers mapped in Reason to XY of a formant filter, which is part of a Thor synth patch I created to approximate a jawharp. I also want to try to get a formant filter to "talk" under launchpad control....

Download it for yourself (need to scroll to attachments at the bottom of linked page) http://sites.google.com/site/skriyl/Home/launchpad-playpad-download

See my other clips for programming and midi routing info... my hands are not really green :)

  • How hard would it be to port this to Mac? Would need to convert it to Objective-C, I assume...?

  • i don't know about macs.. you'd need to change all the system calls so they worked with mac midi interface, but i guess you can use any programming language

  • I just got a launchpad and I'm wondering if it's possible to do this with ableton live?

  • I can't see why not, as long as its on windows. To get a similar sound you'll need a midi-controllable formant filter.. not sure how to set that up in live.

  • Hey, what's going on with the code? Do you have it, please? I am very interested in applying this on live gig!

  • there is a link to download code in the clip description (click on more info).. youtube wont let me post a link in a comment.

  • I LIKE GREEN HANDS !!

  • @hotchk155 try it with the Operator synth.

  • Great!!! :D

  • Very cool :)

  • Sounds like daft punk with no beat ^^

  • Awesome for Psytrance.

  • didgeridoo ftw

  • That is a really nice sound. I don't know much about sound technology, but it would be nice if you could get an additional "throat" sound to kick (abruptly) for the lower notes, l think the jaw harp sounds like that.

  • good god this is neat
