This is my documentation of the GTX 680 VSync stuttering problem. It occurs in many games, but here I use Mass Effect 3 as my example. First we look at a PC with a 560 Ti running with default settings in nVidia control panel and in ME3. VSync is on and we are playing at 60Hz. The next test is a PC with a 680 with same exact setting VSync and 60Hz.

It's funny that you post this on YouTube, which (because of Flash) has major stuttering problems of its own. It's impossible to tell which stutter is from the game and which is from the video.

All I saw trying to show is the FRAPS counter. I even mention in the video that it's at 30fps and you can't notice the stuttering.. you must not have watched it heh

Another person who didn't watch the whole video. Why no drops with the 560 ti? Don't comment from a position of ignorance

Obviously, it's a crappy vsync management, resulting in a frame loss every x seconds. Anyway, i don't like vsync because it's adding latency, and i prefer tearing rather than latency ! You should do the same, you'll see, gameplay is more comfortable.

Whether or not frame tearing is preferable to stuttering depends on the game for me. For a fast paced online shooter, yes VSync off because the tearing is worth it for less input lag and higher FPS. For single player RPG often times VSync is better because the frame tearing can break the immersion of the game. 60FPS locked with VSync is necessary for some games which have bugs without a frame limit (Skyrim) and for people using 3D Vision setups which require VSync.

Did you ever try disabling the boost feature?

For me it seems thats the cause of this. When I look at my boost log, I see it going up and down constantly, and funnily when I actually notice stuttering.

I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing this stuttering in so many games, it makes 60 fps look like 30 fps at times

    1. Why is v-sync on in control panel for mass efffect 3...Already theres v-sync for mass effect and i run it at 60 frames on a 660 Ti..Doesnt compute and even your dropping a few fps its not that bad..Some cant run the game at all..Some runs at 30 fps so i would just deal ith it..Kepler isnt the best for v-sync but i can deal with it

Has this been fixed yet? I'm planning on upgrading to a 680 in the next few months so I hope it's all taken care of now.

    buy a 120hz monitor. Using a 680 on a tiny 60hz monitor is pointless.
