Kurt had an original idea for a Lithium video that was much more detailed, but due to his health problems in 1992 he just decided to put out a collage of live clips for the video that was officially released. If you read the "Come As You Are" biography, you'll know what it was. Well, 14 years later, I decided to attempt to realize Kurt's original vision for this song, using...the original studio version of this song! Enjoy.

(Oh, and by the way, that's Butch Vig talking at the beginning. He produced this 1990 demo, and then when the band was looking for a producer to do Nevermind over a year later, they decided on him because of his familiarity with their work and how successful this session went. The rest, as they say, is history).

  • Except on the melodies of his songs, which he worked on until they were how he wanted them to sound, which is why his vocal takes were often identical, (he'd already worked out the exact sound he wanted), but when it came to lyrics, guitar playing, or video concepts, he didn't have the same attention span. Melody was the most important thing to him, over musicianship or ideas, and you can tell. It's not what he says that's powerful, it's the way he sang it.

  • or perhaps he just said that as his lyrics became more and more focused to get the media and the fans off his back. the apparent lyrical complexity of his last song "Do re mi" is staggering compared to anything else he ever did.

  • the guitars sounded great but drums on this version sucked ballz

  • yeah thats poor old chad on the drums. he'd be fired from the band a month after this recording.

  • It sounds a lot different from the normal version of the song...

  • this is how they played it live until they released it as a single, nevermind version was drop tuned...
