@Aspartem I've read them (and Silent Ponyville to boot) and personally thought Cupcakes wasn't REALLY good writing- just gory. Rainbow Factory WAS written better, which I agree with you on- but truly Cupcakes was just flat-out gore without any much suspense or buildup. You take something like Fallout: Equestria and you KNOW it's good writing. But Cupcakes- not so much, you're too busy dry heaving in the corner.

@coolguytw I call it a story, and its just some gore. It's so over the top it's just amusing. The same with splatter-horro movies. I mostly sit there and laugh my ass of because nobody could actually take that serious.
And Cupcakes is pretty well written for a fanfic. Though RainbowFactory has way more suspense.
Those stories are a really good read and unless you've terrible problems with distancing from what you read, give it a try. It's not as bad as people make it out to be.
