My observations of the 17 year periodical cicada.... This was part of the massive Brood "X" emergence of 2004 in southeastern Indiana. With the exception of the little bit of footage taken the year before when I found one larva, I filmed this all in one night during the initial eruption from the ground. The amount of insects at one time was amazing and the ground was alive with crawling critters as they raced to any incline possible to molt that one last time.
