A feral cat in the neighborhood I've named George really wants to love up on Percy, my rescue dog. Percy seems perplexed.

@psygnsup You are clueless. As cats are referred to as a self-domesticated species infers that an cat can behave in in manner they see fit. I adopted a barn cat, from a long line of who hate any human but for some reason decided I was OK. Prior to that, it only socialized with 3 big Rotts.

@hillee97 Honestly, I'm not 100% sure. George is neutered and I thought he was a boy at first, then upons closer inspection, I thought she might actually be a girl.

How gorgeous! Do you mind what if I ask what happened to Percy's legs? Luxating patella's or something?
George is so uber friendly, could be someones pet, but I work with cats and HEAPS of strays who come in feral actually become quite lovely, or just come in lovely to begin with. I wish I could have more animals dammit lol

Claireybear - Glad to hear it's possible for ferals to become friendly. I found Percy severely injured on the side of a busy highway, so I assume she was hit by a car. She wound up having multiple surgeries, the primary one being carpal arthrodesis (joint fusion), and after that came the splints as part of rehab. She still wears one splint to this day.

You may be right that Georgie is an abandoned housecat. He's easier to approach and more tame than the other true ferals in the neighborhood. I have over time managed to TNR (trap, neuter, return) every feral cat that hangs around my neighborhood so the population doesn't continue to grow.
