They are why a flint and steel is called a flint and steel. Strike them with a bit of flint, and they shave off and ignite a bit of the striker, which causes the spark.
I need to make myself a tinder box.
Cheers, I like my hair short, but it's kind of interesting to have my beard contrastingly long.

I use English Flint chards from the chalk nodules. Ironic, isn't it? Well, maybe not Ironic. Great video, I loved it. Thanks very much for showing the primitive arts. Keep the faith, and keep on uploading.

I knew american's didn't get Irony. It's flint level technology, so it's not Irony, it's stoney.
:D
Where do you source your flint from?
Thanks for the feedback.

Dried grass or crumbled up brush works better than paper.

My Favourite tinder is Birch Bark, but I think charcloth, or Broom (bullrush) will be a better tinder for this. I honestly wasn't expecting the news paper to catch, even if I'd be using a rare earth metal striker. I find dry grass makes a very good nest, but I've found it tricky to form a good ember.

I love opening exchange packages like that! Fun stuff!
You'll need to show us when you make you tinder box and get a nice fire rolling.

Will do. We each have come out thinking we got the better side of the deal, the best kind of trade.
