Rose-Ringed Parakeets eating Mahogany Seeds

Was having breakfast at my kitchen window as usual, every morning,
when a small flock of about ten birds landed on the canopy of the Mahogany tree
right in front of us. The seed pods of the Mahogany Trees in my area was ripening,
and with a loud crack the seed pod would explode exposing the winged-like seeds to
the elements. When seeds gets released they would all twirl round like the rotor blades of the
helicopter, slowly, magically, descending.

I have found that parakeets in general seems to be very messy feeders, when they land on a
Starfruit tree, the fruits would get nibbled at, and the remainder of the fruit which is as much as
90 percent of the fruit remains uneaten, all allowed to fall onto the ground to rot.

Coming back to the Rose-Ringed Parakeets, this flock of females behavior with the mahogany seeds
is similar, they would pick out a seed, and if they do not like it, it would be allowed to fall off from their
beaks. However to be fair to the birds I do not think there is much to be eaten from these very flat seeds.
As can be seen some of the seeds do get eaten a very small portion, as eighty to ninety percent of the
winged seed is just skin.

this seed is cure for many deceases, you can take the seed once a day, warning its to bitter..

Beautiful. What an awesome view to have from one's kitchen window, especially for us bird-adoring peeps :)
