Really both blues and jazz together in a way. Blues uses the flattened 3rds 5ths and 7ths. I'm not sure on all the exact rules for jazz, but jazz does have some of the same things as the blues. I think jazz uses a major 7th, but I could be wrong. It sounds kind of like the blues in minor, but with something else that I can't explain what it is. But I have heard of several types of blues, and the term jazzy blues was one of them. This is probably the kind of blues he is playing.

@Torn80cj Jazz uses everything bud. And it's all based off of the blues. Jazz couldn't exist without it. He uses some 'jazz voicings' on his chords, instead of the simple c7 f7 g7 c7 form of the blues, which is very rarely used anymore, except by blues standardists. He plays a major pentatonic in this, which is nice, but I prefer the minor (C Eb F G Bb C) over the blues. Often, I'll just switch to the 'Blues Scale,' Which adds the minor 5th of the scale to the minor pentatonic C Eb F F# G Bb C

So the blues Pentatonic scale always lower the 3rd?

Wait so you saying you give me a lesson over the phone? Over the phone sucks :(
Mark,
Nice job on the piano.
By the way, do you still have openings for lessons? I live in Salt Lake City and am interested in learning jazz, blues, and improv. I've taken formal piano for 10 years but learned a lot of site reading and not blues or improv.
Please let me know if it is possible for me to sign up with you for some lessons.

Great video! I took piano lessons throughout my elementary, middle and high school years, and like a lot of people, lost track of practicing, performing, etc. I've been thinking about getting back into lessons just to learn blues improvisation. Your vid has helped encourage me further! Thanks very much!
