@Guitararcher hehe same thing happened to me a few years back. I was just messing around trying to hook a tiny bait fish with a fly (#22 hook or something small like that). When it hooked, a pretty decent sized pike came out of nowhere and swallowed it. By some incredible chance of luck, I hooked the pike instead, and managed to land it :) This was in a 2ft deep river no wider than 3ft across.

actually it is an awsome thing to see even if it happens every single time you catch a fish and a huge muskie comes and eats it. I think it is something pretty cool. :)

i would have let the bail loose so the pike could swallow it, almost the same exact thing happened to me, I was fly fishing for crappie and I hooked a tiny blue gill, a MONSTER pike came and slammed it, kinda did a victory lap and completely took off. I started stripping off line but the fish caught up and started stripping off fly line. I had 4 pound test line with a 5 weight fly rod. You think pike are fun to catch just imagin it on a 5 weight fly rod. Anyway he ended up spitting it out!:(

the world record northen pike in wisconsin was set by someone how hooked a 30in pike and right next to the boat a 56in northen came up and swallowed the other fish andthe people in the boat netted them both
