If you happen across an original 1960s era SOG Bowie knife and want to buy it, expect to fork over at least $1,000 plus. That's because that combat knife is limited in number and had such a interesting life in combat with the Studies and Observation Group (SOG) in Vietnam. The SOG Knife Company's success and expansion came out of their quality re-creation and marketing of this blade. This SOG Tech Bowie is a modern and worthy successor to the original. With AUS8 steel, beautiful and effective TiAIN coating, Kraton grip, hammering pommel, good balance, reasonable weight, and excellent Kydex sheath, the Tech Bowie is a ready and willing combat knife. And if combat isn't on the menu it will make an equally good woods or hunting companion. For its reasonable cost, quality execution, and maxed out cool factor, this SOG knife is a good buy./////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 9 of 10 (price considered)

  • @BigRooster747 Whats wrong with AUS 8? Its a perfectly capable steel, as long as its refined properly

  • This is one of my all time favorite knifes. Have had it for a while now and just love to break it out every now and then and admire it! Great review Nutn... thank you!

  • Got this knife. Unimpressed with tini finish but like blade overall. I hated the kydex sheath so I ordered optional leather from SoG. The leather was $35 and sog included a bumpersticker and free tool logic slim card tool with the shipment. Good job Sog. You've renewed my faith in knife makers. And now I'm gettin an Agency. No TiNi on that one

  • are you sure that the reason that your old stacked leather handled knife swelled up with water is because it is before they started to epoxy the handles? they are impervious to water now :P

this is a sweet one but i just ordered the SOG super bowie, its one bad mofo!

    sweet review!

  • What a beautiful knife! Aus8 keeps the price down and in my experience is a good blade material; not great but good. A super hard steel in a knife thsis size could make it too brittle, espexially with that fine tip.

  • I'm definitely thinking about picking one of these up over the holiday season if I can find it for the right price. I'm loving the coating.

  • oh my god that's a beathifull knife....

  • aus8 is soft, dulls quickly and is simply an inferior, cheap steel, now alas mostly used for cheaper production knives. It is a very small extra to make them from better steels, such as ats-34, s30v, 154cm, 154cpm or 420HC even. There is no excuse for a nice blade pattern to fall short of the mark, steel wise. Imagine what a good steel on a sog bowie could do, and oh, make it thinner as well, 3/16 is far preferable.
