Why is this turning into a religous debate. The staff of NGE arent even christian or for that matter very religous ppl. The director even said himself he just used elements from christianity because "they sounded cool" not because it was special or significant lol

@hotelmario510 it means "FIRST BOOK of the New Gospel" according to the people who made it ( i have the platinum version box set with all the very illuminating commentary--it literally makes the show 100% better by providing depth to the plot devices, making things apparent that weren't)

@Doagatra Actually, "Neon Genesis Evangelion" means "The Birth of the New Gospel".
The Japanese title, "Shinseiki Evangelion" means "New Century Evangelion", unless you translate the Greek also, in which case it becomes "The Gospel of the New Century".
