the archos looks mre practical and more compatibile but the ipods style just wins me over every time!

Wrong, it plays mp4 out of the box. The truth is when you buy an ipod your just paying a shit load of cash for style. Archos has always pwned the media tech industry. Ipod might have the pop culture draw but Archos is much more of a product.
